Welcome To

Place where we have aunthentically amazing local trips around Cambodia, basically heaven for tourists wishing to explore the very rural area around Takeo with offering budget accommodation.

ABOUT US

I am pleased to inform you that, following several years of planning and several months of preparation, my business project in the provincial Takeo, a large town at the heart of Cambodia, has finally become a reality. The main idea being to create a haven for tourists wishing to explore the very rural area around Takeo, offering budget accommodation, western and khmer food, and local tours organised by “Phnom Da Travel”, Khmerburger wishes to offer a fun and useful service to backpackers whilst supporting the local community.

The simple dorm rooms begin at 4 US dollars per night, and the common areas include a small swimming pool, a quiet room, a terrace, hammocks…in short a friendly place to relax and meet new people. For those who wish to stay longer and truly embrace the khmer culture and local community, we are able to organise many kinds of volunteer work, mostly in the surrounding area of Takeo Province. Share a true experience with locals teaching in schools, or helping out in hospitals in exchange for a roof over your head and in some cases, daily meals are offered (usually at a cost of about 20 US dollars a week total price). It is important for us to emphasise that unlike many other “volunteer organisations” in South East asia we will not ask for hundreds of dollars of you for this experience, here in Takeo we need you for your help, not your money.

Many other sights to see are dotted around the area such as a trail of ancient temples, which includes Phnom Da the oldest temple in the country. As well as treks, visits to the Killing Fields and even the very first tubing experience in Cambodia: a trip to Phnom Da temple behind a boat in an air-filled rubber tube. In other words a lot of fun! If you do not know how to cheaply get to Cambodia, have any questions, or simply would like, but do not have the foggiest idea how to organise a trip on your own - we will help you, free of charge of course! I have been living here for a while now, so I can offer help with things such as: what are the local prices, etc. I happily invite you to like the facebook page "Phnom Da Travel"
If you have any ideas or wishes we are happy to research this on your behalf - basically, what matters to us is that you do what you like. Just contact me by contacts listed in Contacts section Best regards and see you in Takeo!

Sincerely, Paweł W. Bolek

TOUR TO PHNOM DA TEMPLE & Angkor Borei

The earliest dated archaeological material from these sites is from roughly 400 BC. They contain the earliest known dated Khmer inscriptions as well as the earliest tradition of Khmer sculpture. The local caves were used as crematories by the Pol Pot regime. Phnom Da temple was built on the top of a small hill in 6th century by King Rutravarman, who reigned during the Norkor Phnom period, according to the French historian Mibreno. The temple is 12 meters square and 18 meters high. It was constructed of laterite, brick and sandstone. A Brahman temple, it faces north towards Norkor Kork Thalork, which was the capital of Nokor Phnom at the time the temple was built. There is no rampart. The temple's peak is damaged, and a sculpture depicting the story of Churning of the Ocean of Milk (Cambodian calls Ko Samutra Teuk Dos) has been broken into two parts. A lintel illustrates the figure of sleeping Vishnu. There are false doors on three sides and a real door that opens on the north side. In the flank of the hill are five man-made caves that reflect the style of Phnom Da, which is similar to India style. In each cave, there is a Shiva lingam and Uma yoni, objects that Brahmans worship. During the Pol Pot regime, between 1975 and 1979, the caves were used as cremation places by the Khmer Rouge. About 300 meters southwest of the temple is another smaller temple known as Asrom Moha Eysei. Built at the end of the 6th century in Zhenla Period, during the reign of King Pavavarman I, the temple has five windows and two doors. It is 5.5 meters square and 7 meters high, it is built in the Indian style and features a double wall of basalt that faces north. Angkor Borei. Located on the border with Vietnam charming town inhabited by miraculous people. Local market, the pagoda where you can have breakfast with the monks, the Museum of the Kingdom of Funan and international school ASEAN ENGLISH SCHOOL.

Phnom Bayong + Phnom Din + Chruos Phaork

Affording breathtaking views of Vietnam’s pancake-flat Mekong Delta, the cliff-ringed summit of Phnom Bayong (313m, about 43 kilometers south of Takeo) is graced by a 7th-century Chenla temple built to celebrate a victory over Funan. The linga originally in the inner chamber is now in Paris’ Musée Guimet but a number of flora- and fauna-themed bas-relief panels can still be seen, eg on the lintels of the three false doorways and carved into the brickwork. The site, once surrounded by two concentric walls (remnants are still visible), still attracts pilgrims and is tended by Buddhist nuns who live nearby in basic huts. About two kilometers away is located the Phnom Din Mountain and Kirivong Waterfall (2.5 km). Nearby on the market, the market stalls selling the area's most famous product: topaz and quartz, either cut like gems or carved into tiny Buddhas and nagas. Program of the trip includes a visit to the Chruos Phaork. The flowers here are vibrant and colorful. Sometimes the tourists will find rare plants in the locale. It is indeed a delightful venture. Like most of the other natural and wildlife tourist attractions in Takeo at the Chruos Phaork too the tourists will find rare insects and birds too.

KILLING FIELDS & AROUND TAKEO

Takeo province is often referred to as the cradle of Cambodian civilisation Takeo province has several important pre-Angkorian sites built between the 5th and the 8th century. The provincial capital, Takeo town is an easygoing place that possesses a fair amount of natural and manmade beauty. The natural beauty is in the Scenic River and lake area that faces a pleasant town parkway. The low-lying area seems to include much of the surrounding province area, which is probably why a kingdom that once had its heart here was referred to as Water Chenla. There seems to be water everywhere in the surrounding countryside during the rainy season. Takeo borders the provinces of Kampot to the west, Kampong Speu to the northwest and Kandal to the north and east. Its southern boundary is the international border with Vietnam. The provincial capital, recently known as the provincial town Daun Kaev (formerly called Takéo), is a small city with a population of 39,186. Here you do shopping at the local market, around the town you'll find numerous temples and picturesque rice fields. The surrounding Krangtachan is located one of the Killing Fields of Pol Pot regime. Under the rule of the dictator was murdered here 10 000 people considered as enemies of the regime. Today is here educational centre, a museum and a library. In the centre of the square and monument located at the same time full of skulls and bones of the tomb of the victims. Killing Field mass graves can watch and learn more about the recent history of Cambodia.

Chiso Mountain & Neang Khmao Pagoda

Phnom Chiso temple was built in the early 11th century by King Suryavarman I (AD 1002-1050), who practiced Brahmanism. Constructed of sandstone and other stones, it is 60 meters long and 50 meters wide and sits atop a mountain. The temple is surrounded by two galleries. The first gallery is 60 meters long on each side. The second, smaller gallery, is in the middle, where there is the main worship place with two doors and a wooden statue. There are beautiful sculptures on the lintel and the pillars. Phnom Chiso Pagoda was built in 1917, destroyed by war during the 1970s and rebuilt in 1979. Behind it is a hall called Thammasaphea, kof and a worship place. There is an ancient water tank made of concrete. People usually climb the staircase on the west side of the mountain, which has 390 steps and descend by the south side staircase, which has 408 steps. Another set of stairs in front of the temple links the temple to Sen Chhmos temple, Sen Phouvang temple and Tonie Om, a lake considered sacred by Brahmans and used for washing away sins. A large rock yard nearby about 100 meters long and 80 meters was once the site of several other temples, but only parts of these temples remain standing. Phnom Chiso is very popular with visitors, especially during festivals, when it is very crowded. The top of the mountain affords visitors a panoramic view of Takeo Province rice paddies stretching for kilometers. Neang Khmao temle is inside Wat Neang Khmao. Constructed of sandstone and brick in the style of Koh Ker, the temple was built by King Jayavarman IV (AD 921-941) in the 10th century for the worship of Brahmanism. The site originally consisted of three temples built side by side, however, only two are still standing, and both are heavily damaged. The Neang Khmao Temple, Takeo is also known as the temple of the Black Virgin. According to legends, this temple might once have been the haven to Kali, the Dark Goddess of Destruction.
